Book Bath Box – Winter 2017

Book Bath Box is a quarterly book subscription service, run by one of my favorite booktubers, Winx and Ink! If you are unfamiliar with Book Bath Box, it is a box filled with finely selected items that help build the perfect bath and reading environment. Plans begin at $39.95 per quarter and with the prepay option, you can save up to $4 a box! Shipping is free for US subscribers and also ships internationally.

This season’s theme was “Faeries in History”! Book Bath Box has easily been one of my favorite book subscriptions on there! Not only that I feel like it’s a luxury treat, but the owner is also an absolute sweetheart as well! I always love the care that comes with the box as it is always beautifully wrapped and smells amazing too!

The first item from the box was the “Sugar Plum Fairy” bubble bar by DustbunnysBubbles. The one thing I forgot to mention was that Book Bath Box will always be cruelty-free which is a huge win for me! The bar is lightly-shimmered with glitter, and the smell reminds me of Lush’s Snow Fairy but more subtle. I adore the smell because Snow Fairy is one of my favorite scents, but I might like this more since it’s not too overwhelming for me (Damn you allergies!).

Next, we have a Harney & Sons “Tower of London Blend” which contains five sachets of fresh black tea. Since I’ve been weaning off coffee, I have been drinking more tea lately, especially black tea! I’m excited to discover this brand since I’ve never heard of this company before and the packaging is beautiful. Kind of reminds me of those Altoids Sours tins back in the day!

So, I’m obsessed with candles, so obsessed that I’m working on launching my candle collection for my shop! Naturally, I’m going to be excited whenever I receive a candle so included in the box is a Copper & Kraft “Home & Hearth” 2 oz soy wax candle. The scent is exclusive to the box since the scent wasn’t listed on their Etsy shop. Now, I must ashamedly admit that I lost my product card for this box, but I do remember that it was a reference to the owner’s favorite fairies I believe? Once I find that card, I’ll update that info, but I honestly thought that it was a Final Fantasy XV reference, “For Hearth and Home.”

Before I reveal the book, I just wanted to mention the drawing on this bookmark. Again, I’m sorry that I don’t have the information on the artist, but I believe it was drawn by another booktuber as well.

Last but not least, the featured novel, Midnight Never Come by Marie Brennan! This is book one of the Onyx Court Series, and it is also a special one because it is an out of print novel! I’ve read Marie Brennan’s A Natural History of Dragons many moons ago, so I’m pretty excited to read this book. Here is a brief summary of the novel from Amazon:

“England flourishes under the hand of its Virgin Queen: Elizabeth, Gloriana, last and most powerful of the Tudor monarchs.

But a great light casts a great shadow.

In hidden catacombs beneath London, a second Queen holds court: Invidiana, ruler of faerie England, and a dark mirror to the glory above. In the thirty years since Elizabeth ascended her throne, fae and mortal politics have become inextricably entwined, in secret alliances and ruthless betrayals whose existence is suspected only by a few.

Two courtiers, both struggling for royal favor, are about to uncover the secrets that lie behind these two thrones. When the faerie lady Lune is sent to monitor and manipulate Elizabeth’s spymaster, Walsingham, her path crosses that of Michael Deven, a mortal gentleman and agent of Walsingham’s. His discovery of the “hidden player” in English politics will test Lune’s loyalty and Deven’s courage alike. Will she betray her Queen for the sake of a world that is not hers? And can he survive in the alien and Machiavellian world of the fae? For only together will they be able to find the source of Invidiana’s power — find it, and break it . . . .

A breathtaking novel of intrigue and betrayal set in Elizabethan England; Midnight Never Come seamlessly weaves together history and the fantastic to dazzling effect.”

Final thoughts: Book Bath Box has been a pleasure to review as I’m always impressed by the curation of this subscription! Winx carefully craft this box with items that are high in quality and perfectly paired to enhance your reading.
