Book Bath Box – Summer 2016

Book Bath Box is a quarterly book subscription service, run by one of my favorite booktubers, Winx and Ink! I was thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to Winx’s Kickstarter campaign for her new subscription box. If you are not familiar with Book Bath Box, it is basically reading heaven in a box! It is this magical experience that promotes self-care and makes your bath time reading relaxing, fun, and lavishing.  Her limited edition box was “Books on Mars” so, naturally, I had to get it! The box contains:

The Quantum Thief by Hannu Rajaniemi

The Martian by Melt Away Bath Bombs

Quantum Memory, custom made by Novelly Yours

Vanilla Rooibos loose leaf tea by Townshend’s Tea

A custom made bookmark from Book Bath Box, featuring a quote from The Quantum Thief

And a backer’s exclusive signed a photo of Winx’s kitty, Mosa!

If you are interested in signing up, plans start at $39.95 a box and ships quarterly. You can visit their website at www.bookbathbox.com.

Now, a breakdown review of each item! Our featured book is The Quantum Thief by Hannu Rajaniemi. According to the website, the books will be adult fiction with a heavier leaning towards Science Fiction Fantasy. Here is a brief summary of the book that was described in the product card:

The Quantum Thief is a breathtaking joyride through the solar system several centuries hence, a world of marching cities, ubiquitous public-key encryption, people who communicate via shared memory, and a race of hyper-advanced humans who originated as an MMORPG guild. But for all its wonders, The Quantum Thief is also a story powered by very human motives of betrayal, jealousy, and revenge.

BBB-book

I’m really intrigued as it is a blend of science fiction and a bit of game theory. Despite the book being released in 2012, I’ve never heard of this book before and it is Book one of the Jean Le Flambauer series.

The Martian Bath Bomb

So, here’s a little confession. I don’t take bubble baths often because of my current living situation (I live in a full house so there is no such thing as me time. lol). I am, however, love all things bath related especially when they are inspired by something nerdy. When I saw this beauty, inspired by my favorite planet, I was in love! The smell was so amazing and it contains a calming lavender and rose hip essential oils. I cannot wait to drop this red planet when I have the opportunity but at the same time, I wouldn’t mind keeping it on my shelf for a while.

Quantum Memory candle

If you follow a few bookstagram accounts on Instagram, then I’m sure you’re familiar with Novelly Yours! If not, they are a candle company on Etsy that offers soy candles inspired by books (mostly YA books), ranging from The Grisha Trilogy to the Luna Chronicles. I’ve been eyeing their Instagram feed for a while, hoping that one day, I will purchase a candle!

BBB-candle

Now, this candle is custom made specifically for the Book Bath Box so you won’t get this baby anywhere else! It is inspired by the featured book, The Quantum Thief and it is the most lovely scents I’ve encountered! It is a blend of honey, vanilla, lavender and rose (which is a more dominating scent) and it is a gorgeous color of gray/silver.

Vanilla Rooibos loose leaf tea

I’m more of a coffee drinker but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a good tea here and there. Along with candles and a book, teas and coffees are probably another favorite items that I would love to receive in a book box! Despite my previous obsession of taste-testing almost every tea in Teavana, I have not tried a rooibos tea! Mainly because I was very anti-caffeine-free at the time and if it didn’t have caffeine, no thank you.

BBB-tea

However, the scent of the tea felt extremely familiar. It almost smelled like the days where I had to brew Thai tea at this restaurant I used to work at (minus the mountains of sugar that I had to pour into). That alone was a win for me and I cannot wait to curl up on the couch with a book in my hand and this tea in the other.

Lastly, the paper goods of the box! While I don’t like to photograph the paper stuff in boxes like the product card or ads, I wanted to make note of it anyways. The bookmark was their logo and the theme and the date of the box (which was Summer 2016), however, on the back of the bookmark was the quote from The Quantum Thief.  It reads: “The criminal is a creative artist; Detectives are just critics.” How freaking awesome is that?!

BBB-paper

It also included a tip for reading in the tub! If you have an e-reader, simply place the device in a Ziploc bag. If you were reading a paperback and it got wet, place it in a Ziploc bag and leave it in a freezer for a few days! “Awesome dehydration science happens that pulls the water from your pages!” And finally, probably the best part of the box is receiving a signed photo of Mosa, Winx’s kitty and co-host of her channel! The photo was given as a backer’s exclusive which I was very happy to receive! There were other perks where you could have received a mug and future boxes as well!

Overall, I’m very pleased with Book Bath Box’s very first limited edition box and will be planning on subscribing for their Autumn box, The Science of Fantasy! This is perfect for those who wants to enhance their bath time reading or perhaps discover a new book box.  Another thing I want to mention that if you were to list out any allergies or dietary restrictions you may have, Book Bath Box will try their best to find another alternative for their bath products! How wonderful is that?! Again, If you are interested in signing up, plans starts at $39.95 a box and ships quarterly. Visit their website at www.bookbathbox.com for more details!
